Are you passionate about making a difference in your community?
Every day, tonnes of food go to landfill while many families struggle to put food on the table. And what’s worse, in landfill it generates greenhouse gas emissions, making our fight against climate change even harder.
As a volunteer, you can help us rescue this food and distribute it to those in need. Whether you have a few hours a week or a day to spare, your time can make a real impact.
Answers to a few common questions....
What’s the process to signup as a Volunteer?
Once you fill in the enquiry form, we will get in touch with you typically within a few days.
Once we’ve had a chat, we will send you a form to collect some details from you and get an idea of your availability for helping out with either picking up food or helping at food markets.
We also require each volunteer to have a Working With Children and also a Police Check.
After that, we will assign you a buddy for any questions and meet you at the markets to help you get to know how they run.
What skills or equipment do I need?
The main thing we require is enthusiasm! There is some level of moving and lifting of crates of food. We can discuss this during the signup process.
If you have a your own car and are willing to transport food in crates, you may be able to assist in picking up food and bringing it to the markets. (We can generally cover standard car fuel & transport costs).
What do I do as a volunteer pickup driver?
Our drivers pickup from a food provider (e.g. supermarkets) and load into their car and drive it to the market. We pick up food from eastern suburbs locations.
What do I do as a market volunteer?
At the market a market volunteer performs a range of duties including:

- Setup the tables and crates for holding food
- Unload food and crates from the pickup driver vehicles
- Sort and put the food out for the market
- Monitor the food during the market to ensure everyone receives a fair share.
- Clean and packup the tables and food crates
- Take extra food to the pantries
